ナビエストークス方程式、琉球大学びぶりお文学賞を受賞する

Navier-Stokes 方程式をタイトルにした詩が、2017 年度琉球大学びぶりお文学賞を受賞されました。このタイトルには本当に驚かされました。なぜなら、この方程式は、私が常日頃研究の対象としているものであり、私はこの方程式を 2005 年度に修正しているからです（リンク先参照）。

しかし、この作品の作者西上さんは、理工学研究科の学生ですが、小説の部門も同時にダブル受賞されています。文系学生から多数の応募がある中で、理系の学生が、しかもダブル受賞となったことは、驚くばかりです。

芥川龍之介や夏目漱石などは、数学を愛したというが、数学と文学とはどこか精神が通じているのかもしれません。

しかし、学生達の小説や詩を読んでいると本当にその斬新さや展開の鋭さに感動させられます。「小説や詩を書くとは、まさに自然科学分野における研究を見る様である」ということに気づかされました。

何事も打ち込むところに、輝きが放たれていると感じたしたいです。

この作品は、私が図書館長を拝命している際の受賞ですので、タイトルも合わせて、運命を感じます。このような機会を経験できたことに感謝いたしたいと思います。

A poem titled “The Navier-Stokes equation” was awarded the University of the Ryukyus Vibrio-Literature Award in 2017. This title has truly amazed me because the equation is a subject of my research and I reconstructed the equation in 2005 (see the link). Mr. Nishigami, author of this work, is a student in the Graduate School of Science and Technology, but he has also won double awards at the same time. Among numerous entries from the Department of Art students, it is surprising that a science student has won double awards.

Akutagawa Ryunosuke and Natsume Soseki, for example, say that they love mathematics, but perhaps the spirit of something matches mathematics and literature. Reading students' novels and poetry one is truly impressed by their innovation and the sharpness of their thinking. I realized that "to write novels and poetry seems to be just research on natural sciences." Wherever one puts effort, we feel that the radiance is released.

This work is awarded while I was the director of the library, so I feel a sense of fate with the title. I would like to thank you for being able to experience such an opportunity.
